Job and education fair

The 1st FVAS organized a job and education fair at the Blaubeuren conference center, where young people in particular were able to discover their career opportunities with various companies in the region.

Blausteiner autumn with trade fair for skilled workers
September 2022
Performance show, artisan market, open Sunday and for the first time a trade fair for skilled workers characterize the first edition after three years of corona-related break. The premiere of the fair for “job offers, training and internships” was well received: 20 companies and public institutions presented their offers in the well-attended Blautalhalle.
Mühlen Sohn also informed interested guests about vacancies as well as training and career opportunities, but also about the company’s product range.

Ranga Yogeshwar honors Mühlen Sohn
At a joint online conference, science journalist and TOP 100 mentor Ranga Yogeshwar paid tribute to the achievements of this year’s winners of the TOP 100 innovation competition. He also congratulated Mühlen Sohn GmbH & Co. KG on its success in the innovation competition with a personal video.
In the scientific selection process, Mühlen Sohn made a particular impression in the size category B (51 to 200 employees in Germany) in the category “Innovation-promoting top management”.

We are aware of our special responsibility as a company towards future generations and have acted accordingly. With the help of the consultants of Fokus Zukunft GmbH we have recorded all greenhouse gas emissions emitted by our company, and offset them by purchasing a total of 10.096 climate protection certificates for the year 2021.
In addition, our 246 kp photovoltaic system on the production roof went online. We use around 90% of the solar power generated on site, while the rest is fed into the grid. This saves several hundred tons of CO2 per year. We are thus improving our carbon footprint and making an important contribution to the energy transition and climate protection.

Top Innovator 2021
Award-winning innovation power: Muhlen Sohn has been awarded the TOP 100 seal in 2021.
This is the 28th time that particularly innovative medium-sized companies are honored with this award. Muhlen Sohn had previously proven his innovative strength in a scientific selection process. On behalf of compamedia, the organizer of the TOP 100 innovation competition, the innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team evaluated the innovative strength of Muhlen Sohn.
The researchers used around 120 criteria from five categories as a basis for their decision: having a top management bringing forward innovations, innovation climate, innovative processes and organization, external orientation / open innovation and innovation success. At its core, it is about the question of whether innovations are the result of a systematic procedure or a coincidental product, i.e. the repeatability of innovation performances. And about whether and how the corresponding solutions are established in the market.

NEW SUPER WRAP LAG GECO
April 2020
The further development of the SUPER GRIP drum lagging is our new SUPER WRAP LAG GECO. It consists of three layers:
- Silicone coating on the belt side
- PES-fabrics as base
- Self-adhesive layer on the drum side
Thanks to the innovative self-adhesive layer no extra glue is neccessary. This allows a quick and easy installation. 50 % of the installation time can be saved compared to a conventional installation.
Career Fair 2020

Also this year Muhlen Sohn was represented at the career fair in Ulm. Not only the trainers, but above all the young trainees represented their apprenticeships and the company Muhlen Sohn as an interesting employer in the region.
With our FLUITEX sand basin, we were able to bring visitors closer to one of our two product areas – our fluidizing fabrics.
All in all, the career fair was very successful!
Merger of Muhlen Sohn Industries
January 2020
On January 2, 2020 Muhlen Sohn Industries, L.P., an Indiana limited partnership (“MS Industries”), will be merged into Muhlen Sohn Inc., an Indiana corporation. As you already know, MS Industries is the legal entity for our business conducted through our present Anderson, Indiana facility. This merger will consolidate the entire business of MS Industries into Muhlen Sohn Inc.
Therefore, beginning on January 2, 2020 all of our U.S. production, order taking, customer service, administration and other functions will be within one and the same business entity: Muhlen Sohn Inc., at its new address 3019 Enterprise Drive, Anderson, Indiana 46013.
This change will not affect our business relationship. In the future, you will see invoices, correspondence, emails and the like under the banner “Muhlen Sohn Inc.” The same people with whom you have worked will continue to be there to serve you with the same commitment to quality and service that you have experienced up to now. While our name will change, all of the agreements, commitments and obligations that we have entered into up to now will remain in full force and effect by operation of law under Muhlen Sohn Inc.
Therefore, there is no need to change or amend any of our agreements or obligations. They continue in full force and effect as before and apply automatically to Muhlen Sohn Inc.
The Indiana Uniform Business Organization Transaction Act provides that “all the rights, privileges, immunities, powers, and purposes of each merging entity vest in the surviving entity” and “all debts, obligations or other liabilities of each merging entity are debts, obligations and other liabilities of the surviving entity.” (Indiana Uniform Business Organization Transaction Act, IC 23-0-6-2-6). Stated more simply, all of the rights, debts, liabilities and duties that applied to the merged entity (MS Industries) vest automatically by operation of law in Muhlen Sohn Inc., the surviving Indiana corporation.

The best trainees were honored on November 29, 2019 in Stuttgart under the motto “Heroes in the South”. Our trainee Olga Domme was also honored as the best trainee in Germany in her job “textile laboratory assistant”.

Open House Day at Muhlen Sohn

On September 14, 2019, Muhlen Sohn organized an open house day for all interested persons including the familiy members of all our employees. They had the opportunity to show their families and friends the company and take a look behind the scenes of the world market leader.
In addition to drinks, food, coffee and cake, there were also attractions for children and adults. During the guided tours offered, all interested visitors were able to get to know the company, the products and the production process.

New Hybrid Edges

Now, our universal top belt AQUA PULL AE has new, innovative hybrid edges.
The hybrid aramid edge protection has a unique feature combination of moisture management and higher abrasion and temperature resistance at the edges of the belt. This ensures an optimal moisture management over the entire width of the belt – also at the edges.
In addition, the new AQUA PULL AE has improved dimensional stability and optimized straight running performance due to approx. 20 % less elongation and approx. 50 % less width shrinkage.

Our Trainee Marc in London
Our trainee Marc made a special business trip this year. He was allowed to take part in a program sponsored by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and acquired the additional qualification “International Businessman (AHK)”.
During a three-week stay from May 20th to June 9th in the cosmopolitan city of London, he attended the European College of Business and Management. In a total of 120 teaching units, students dealt with the most important topics of foreign trade. This included the main topics “British Economy and Politics”, “Trade in England”, “Marketing and Advertising” and much more.
In addition to general lessons, there were excursions with a technical and cultural background to deepen what had been learned. As part of this program, Marc strengthened his intercultural skills, improved his language skills and expanded his knowledge of international economic areas.
Muhlen Sohn, as an international company, is happy to support its trainees with further training of this kind. We pride ourselves on training committed and cosmopolitan employees.

Basketball School Event
March 2019
Over 100 pupils train for two mornings with the professionals from ratiopharm ulm. The extraordinary training event was organized by Top Partner Muhlen Sohn.
The Muhlen Sohn company, founded in 1880, stands for tradition and innovation. In keeping with this corporate philosophy, the top partner of BBU ‘01 organized a school event on March 12th and 13th, in which over 100 young people from the Blaustein School Association and the Blautopf School took part. In addition to professional trainers from BBU ‘01, the professionals Ismet Akpinar, Bogdan Radosavljevic, Per Günther and David Krämer also took on the role of trainer. “It was about conveying the basics and simply showing how basketball works,” explains Radosavljevic. “I would have wished that there would have been a similar event in my youth,” adds Akpinar, who incidentally revealed that as a teenager he had dreamed of “becoming a pediatrician”.
Under the guidance of the professionals, the students learned the basics of basketball and were able to score points in a quiz with their knowledge of ratiopharm ulm. After a short break for refreshments, the pupils then had the opportunity to get to know Per Günther & Co. personally. Before the Bundesliga basketball players left for training, a round of “bump-out” was played. The winner of the competition then received a signed jersey from ratiopharm ulm. The last unit of the day was a three-on-three tournament where the students could try out their skills.

Muhlen Sohn Industries, a global leader in the corrugated industry announced their latest innovation Friday at the 2016 SuperCorrExpo in Orlando, FL. The newly developed SUPER WRAP LAG was presented before an expert industry audience and is expected to begin shipping in 2017.
Cutting-edge technology meets the highest standards
The adhesive-free application of the lagging allows installation time to be reduced significantly, resulting in installations up to ten times faster than traditional applications. Additionally, due to the self-tensioning properties of the material, very few fastening points are required. Therefore, the lagging cannot slip and can be exchanged easily without leaving any residue behind.
“We are delighted to be able to showcase our newly developed SUPER WRAP LAG to the expert audience at the 2016 SuperCorrExpo. With this innovative product, we offer our American and international customers, as usual, the highest German quality” says Armin Birzele, Sales Director at Muhlen Sohn.
The family owned company was founded in 1880, in Blaustein, Germany. Their various products are used in over 100 countries worldwide. Since 2006, the company is also represented in the US market and employs more than 30 employees at its facility in Anderson, Indiana. In the coming years, the company plans to continue the expansion of its market position within the USA.
Exhibitors present Industry Highlights
The 2016 SuperCorrExpo showcased more than 300 exhibitors to several thousand corrugated industry experts from over 70 countries. It is regarded as the meeting place for the corrugated board industry, from manufacturers to processors as well as manufacturers of machinery, equipment and supplies for the production and processing of corrugated board products. Two of the largest industry associations, TAPPI and AICC, organize the exhibition every four years.

Company successful at the exhibition TAPPI / Sales Meeting in Long Beach
At the exhibition TAPPI Corrugated Week in Long Beach, CA Muhlen Sohn may not be missing. From September 28th to October 1st 2014 the company presented the product range at the most important industry event in North America. All important corporates and manufacturers are represented. “The exhibition is a must as there are all main players in the place. We were able to maintain our network in California and also establish new contacts”, says Head of Sales Armin Birzele.
In advance of the exhibition, Birzele invited his North-American team to the Muhlen Sohn Sales Meeting in Long Beach; 15 participants, all responsible managers for North America and the German delegation came together to strive forward the expansion plans for the US market. The previous success of the recent years is extremely satisfying. “We have doubled our market share in North America in the recent five years”, says Birzele.
In 2006 the company founded the US subsidiary Muhlen Sohn Industries LP located in Anderson, IN. The outbreak of the financial crisis 2008 also affected the US company, but the executives of Muhlen Sohn decided to invest in the important location. In 2009 the company builds up the production in the USA with two weaving machines. Both machines have enough capacity to meet the demands of the market. Birzele emphasizes: “Our investments in the USA paid off. In the next five years we want to further expand our position.”
